glacier highway vanderbilt hill intersection left turn lane
The signing and traffic marking design sheet for the Vanderbilt Hill Road and Glacier Highway intersection is available for viewing and download below. The permanent features, yet to be installed for this area include:
The initial design removed the left turn lane onto Vanderbilt Hill Road from Old Glacier Highway to install a raised median curb with refuge for crossers and to warn vehicular traffic of crossing bicyclists. Based on recent public comments on this design, the State of Alaska Department of Transportation will remove the planned concrete median and permanently reinstall the left turn acceleration lane at the Vanderbilt Hill Road/Glacier Highway intersection. When weather conditions allow, the painted traffic markings will be installed per the striping plan. The crosswalk ladder and rectangle rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) will be installed in the 2022 construction season.
We appreciate your feedback and take these into consideration in our discussions at the State of Alaska Department of Transportation. An update will be emailed and posted here as design changes occur.
